Budding engineers demonstrate their building skills with spaghetti
Equipped with spaghetti and marshmallows, second graders at Independence Primary School set about building the tallest towers they could design.
The future engineers were involved in a STEM challenge that showed learning could be fun – and delicious.
The Marshmallow Spaghetti Tower Challenge encompassed essential life skills of teamwork, creativity and problem solving as the youngsters discovered how to resolve problems like structural stability and balance as they competed to build the tallest freestanding tower.
“It was amazing to watch our second graders approach this challenge with such enthusiasm and creativity,” said design technology teacher Kerry Morosko. “They learned that success comes from working together, being patient, and not being afraid to try new ideas.”
She added: “The Marshmallow Spaghetti Tower Challenge isn’t just a fun activity, it’s a hands-on way to introduce young learners to basic engineering concepts, spatial reasoning, and the importance of perseverance.”
