LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Four dogs are back in loving care after officers with the Las Cruces Police Department arrested a man for allegedly beating them.
Police arrested 36-year-old Luis Cobos. A construction worker captured video from across the street of Cobos allegedly beating up one of the dogs with rocks. They called police who couldn’t find Cobos when they arrived.
Police waited outside for a search warrant for the home and to take custody of the dogs. Cobos came back and was arrested.
Officers searched the home and found two French bulldogs and two basset hounds. One of them had visible injuries and had been bleeding from its nose for hours.
All the dogs were taken to a local veterinarian to be checked out. According to court documents, Cobos admitted to beating the dogs after he said the basset hounds bit him while he was feeding them.
Cobos faces extreme animal abuse charges. He’ll be back in court in April.
