Pima County residents hit by scam calls claiming lost dogs found

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Pima County residents are being targeted by a phone scam involving fake calls from the Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) and other County numbers. Scammers are falsely claiming to be County employees who have found residents’ lost dogs.

The callers are seeking personally identifying information or credit card numbers in order to “reclaim” the dog. These calls are not coming from PACC or the County. Scammers are using a Caller ID “spoofer” to impersonate County phone numbers.

Residents should be cautious if they receive such a call. If uncertain about the caller’s legitimacy, ask for their name and hang up. You can then verify their identity by visiting pima.gov to find the department’s contact information and calling directly.

PACC reminds the public that it waives reclaim fees for pet owners in most situations.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
