PHOTOS: Meeting Available Dogs and Puppies at Adopt-A-Dog’s 36th Annual Puttin’ on the Dog

Adopt A Dog’s annual Puttin’ on the Dog festival and fundraiser in Roger Sherman Baldwin park on Sunday featured displays of agility, obedience, and talent as trained dogs showcased their incredible abilities.

There were numerous competitions as well as pet oriented vendors, a Pet Pantry bone bar, caricature artist, live music, food trucks and much more.

Of course there were adoptable dogs and cats to meet!

The primary sponsor of the event, Pet Pantry, was presented with the Humanitarian Award by Adopt-A-Dog to acknowledge their outstanding contributions to the well-being and welfare of countless animals in need.

Adopt A Dog had their own area of the park to showcase adoptable dogs, while volunteers paired with adoptable dogs and puppies to stroll the park to make friends and meet potential adopters.

Also, several reputable local rescue groups had a presence at the event, including Hazel’s House, a group dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and cats in need.

The all-volunteer organization provides essential veterinary care for the animals in their care, then matches them with loving forever homes. They have no paid staff and 100% of donations go directly to the care of animals they foster.

Hazel’s House was founded by Tina Aronson and Amanda Erb. They named their rescue after Amanda’s pit bull that Tina fostered back in 2015 when she was a puppy. Find them on Facebook.

Also, Animal Rescue and K9 Charities Tina Zinn described her group as a boutique type of rescue.

“We get amazing dogs,” Zinn said. “We evaluate them to see if they have they qualify to be trained for service, therapy or emotional support.”

“That’s why we say we are ‘Rescue with a Purpose,’” she said.

With Zinn and her husband Edwin Gonzalez was Chai a German Shepherd who was a 10 month old puppy when they found him on a Code Red list a day before he was to be euthanized for space in a shelter beyond capacity.

On the ARK Charities website, they explain this situation is not a shelter problem, but rather a community and nationwide problem repeating itself in nearly every southern, Californian and Texas shelter.

Chai (pictured) is a stunning boy, very friendly and intelligent.

Also TAILS, short for The Alliance in Limiting Strays had a tent at the event. The team at TAILS help cats and kittens as their mission is to end overpopulation through spaying and neutering. Over 95% of the animals they help are community cats. They are a population no one advocates for, and yet they are the #1 producer of kittens.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
