JACKSON, MI — The Jackson County Animal Shelter, 3770 Spring Arbor Road, has many pets available for adoption.
Here are two of them.
Violet is a 5-year-old American Staffordshire mix who came in as a stray.
Under her white coat are small spots, similar to a Dalmatian. Violet is a sweet girl and welcomes everyone.
She did well when turned out with a calmer dog but she did not appreciate being jumped on or rough play.
Her obesity is a problem as she needs to lose 20 to 30 pounds according to the vet. Movement is painful for her joints. Her posture alone will likely lead to arthritis. Her adopter needs to continue with her weight loss because she will not be comfortable without losing weight.
Violet will allow you to take food away and continue to wag her tail.
Ross is a 1-year-old black and white tuxedo cat with the cutest pink nose.
He is a laid back guy who is reserved at first, but then loves to be petted. Ross is a fan of snacks and does lots of lip smacking.
He gets along with the other cats where he is housed and just minds his own business.
Dog adoptions require an application, online. A meet-and-greet with a dog also is mandatory. A cat room walk-through is available to test reaction. The dog adoption fee is $150 for medium and large dogs and $250 for puppies and small dogs, which includes vaccinations, microchip and sterilization.
Cat adoption fees are $60 for one cat, $80 for two, which includes applicable tests, vaccinations and spay/neutering.

The shelter’s current hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
