Pet owners say dogs are being zapped at Rochester light poles
OWNERS ABOUT HOW THEIR DOGS ARE DOING. I WAS WALKING MY DOG THIS MORNING AND AS I WAS, YOU KNOW, I WAS GOING TO LIFT HIS LEG ON MANY POLES AND LIGHTS AND FIRE HYDRANT AND TREES AND STUFF LIKE THAT. IT WAS THE USUAL START TO THE DAY FOR WILLIAM MCKAY AND HIS TWO YEAR OLD PUP, PATCHES, STARTING OFF WITH THEIR DAILY MORNING WALK. I WALKED OVER TO A POLE TO LIFT HIS LEG UP, AND THEN HE JUST, LIKE, SCREAMED ROLL OUT, JUMPED UP IN THE AIR AND RAN AWAY. PATCHES WAS ZAPPED BY THE LIGHT POLE. MCKAY CALLED POLICE TO REPORT THE LOCATION AFTER HE SAW SIMILAR STORIES POSTED ONLINE FROM THE WEEKEND. BIG OLD GOOFBALL LOOKS LIKE A GERMAN SHEPHERD. RYAN NAPLES WAS AT THE PARADE ON SATURDAY WITH HIS FOUR YEAR OLD PUP, RUMFORD. HE SAYS AS THEY WERE LEAVING, RUMFORD WENT UP TO A SIMILAR LIGHT POLE JUST DOWN THE ROAD ON MAIN STREET, AND MY DOG STARTED WALKING AND HE LIFTED HIS LEG TO PEE, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WAS A THE MOST EXCRUCIATING NOISE I’VE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE. FOR ABOUT 30S, HE WAS JUST SCREAMING AND PANTING, LAYING ON THE FLOOR, FREAKING OUT. MCCAY SAYS THAT PATCHES BOUNCED BACK PRETTY QUICKLY FROM THE SHOCK, BUT NAPLES SAYS RUMFORD HASN’T BEEN SO LUCKY. I JUST DON’T HAVE THE FUNDS TO BRING HIM TO THE VET TO SEE HOW EXACTLY HE IS. HE’S VERY LETHARGIC AT THE MOMENT, STILL, HE’S SLOWLY GETTING BACK INTO HIMSELF. THE CITY SAYS IT’S LOOKING INTO WHAT IS CAUSING PETS TO BE SHOCKED BY LIGHT POLES. IT HAS CUT POWER TO ALL OF THE REPORTED SITES AS THEY INVESTIGATE. WHILE THE CITY LOOKS FOR A FIX, MCKAY SAYS HE PLANS FOR HIS PUP TO STICK TO THE TREES. THE CITY IS ASKING ALL PET OWNERS WITH A SIMILAR STORY TO REACH OUT T
