A woman is contemplating the future of her relationship with her boyfriend after he said he refuses to live with dogs.
In a post on the U.K. online parenting forum Mumsnet, the woman said she has been with her boyfriend for 18 months “and everything has been great,” but she detailed “one hiccup” in their partnership.
“We live an hours drive apart and have spoken about one day coming together to live, [but] I have 2 small dogs and my boyfriend isn’t a dog person,” she wrote.
Detailing that her boyfriend has “tried hard to adapt” to her pets, and “even got beds for when we stay at his [place],” the woman explained that when a conversation came up about him moving closer to her, and them living together, the man didn’t fully agree.

“He has now laid his cards on the table (his words) that he can’t live with the dogs, especially 2 dogs, and that our time to live together will be after my oldest dog goes to heaven,” she said.
Noting that the dog her boyfriend was referring to is “10 and could live another 4-10 years, being a [terrier],” the woman said, “This has got me somewhat confused and unsure of the future.”
She added that her partner even said they could “get a house with a nice conservatory for them, so they can have their space.”
“It seems like a lovely prize of moving closer, but with a sting attached,” the woman concluded.

Users of the forum were quick to side with the woman, describing her ordeal as a quintessential dealbreaker.
“You don’t want the same thing, I’m afraid. He does not want to live with dogs. You do. Therefore, you can’t live together,” one person wrote.
“Best you know this now so you can end it,” said another, echoing many similar comments.
Others, meanwhile, said the woman’s boyfriend was “entitled” to not like dogs and applauded that he at least was clear about it.
