Pet-cam footage shows a golden retriever enjoying a rare moment alone with his owners since they had a baby, and internet users can’t cope with the wholesome interaction.
The heartwarming TikTok video shared in October by the pup’s owners, under the username @ourboymilo_, shows the 3-year-old dog, Milo, standing on his hind legs as he hugs both his owners at the same time, wagging his tail uncontrollably, struggling to contain his happiness.
“When the baby goes to bed and you finally get mom and dad to yourself again,” says layover text in the clip. A caption shared with the post reads: “The neediest most loving boy you will ever meet.” Newsweek reached out to @ourboymilo_ for comment via TikTok comments. While dogs can be loving and caring, and are known for making great siblings for small humans, they are not immune to feeling jealousy when a new baby arrives and disrupts their daily routine.
A Vet Advises article, written by Dr. Harunur Rashid, says that signs your pup may be jealous of your little one include excessive attention-seeking; pushing or nudging between the owner and the baby; and attempts to disrupt interactions with the baby.
Increased disobedience, unruly behavior, and guarding behavior around the baby’s toys or belongings are also signs that your pup may be experiencing feelings of jealousy toward their new sibling.
To avoid this situation, experts suggest introducing them gradually, always under strict supervision, and rewarding your dog at every right move, to help them form a positive association with the new family addition.
If your dog does experience these feelings, and shows aggression toward the baby, it is important to seek veterinarian advice.
Not all dogs will experience jealousy around babies; in fact, some may feel protective of them from the very first day.
Georgia-based veterinarian Jess Kirk says in a Vet Explains Pets article that, with the right training and socialization, most dogs are safe around babies. If your pup is being a little too protective, you can teach them obedience commands, so they know when they are going too far.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 391,500 views and more than 85,800 likes on the platform.
One user, Jay Virgo, commented: “I know the baby ruined everything but we’re in this together.”
Jimmy G posted: “Milo saying good job with the baby guys, come on now bring it in.”
Katy Perrier added: “The way that he moved his paw to get the mom in the hug is making me cry, that puppy loves you sooooo much.”
