It started in her mother’s closet. While parsing through the wardrobe, Patricia Nash discovered a vintage handbag that changed everything. The find inspired Nash — who already had a successful retail career under her belt — to launch Patricia Nash Designs in 2010, offering a lineup of luxe handbags and accessories with a keen eye for craftsmanship and designs that stand the test of time.
This month, Nash will showcase her work as the headliner of the Baptist Health Foundation’s 35th annual Bolo Bash Reception and Luncheon, marking its return to the spring event calendar. But first, she sat down with Soirée to discuss her influences, her must-haves and how family remains at the heart of it all.
With tradition being a key element of your work, how do you balance trends with timeless design?
PN: I believe the best designs transcend trends. I take inspiration from classic styles, vintage details and artisan techniques, then interpret them in ways that feel fresh and relevant. My goal is always to create pieces that remain stylish for years, not just for a season.
Are there any current trends you’re particularly excited about?
PN: I love the resurgence of vintage-inspired details — kiss-lock closures, intricate tooling and heirloom-quality finishes. Frame bags, in particular, evoke a sense of nostalgia and elegance, and remind us of a time when accessories were made to last and passed down through generations. Patricia Nash has always been a destination for these timeless styles, and it’s exciting to see more women rediscovering their charm and craftsmanship.

Much of your work is inspired by travel. What destination never seems to run out of influence for you?
PN: Italy. From the rich history of leather artisans to the vibrant colors of the countryside and the timeless elegance of its architecture, there’s always something new to discover and share through my designs. It’s where my journey with leather began, and it continues to inspire me.
In an era of fast fashion, what does a commitment to craftsmanship mean to you?
PN: It means honoring the skill and dedication that go into creating something truly special. Every Patricia Nash piece is made with premium materials and time-honored techniques, ensuring it not only lasts, but also becomes part of the wearer’s journey. As the leather softens and takes on a rich patina, it carries the marks of adventures, memories and everyday moments, transforming into a reflection of the life it accompanies.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of designing a piece that successfully combines functionality and artistry?
PN: It’s knowing that a woman can carry one of my bags every day and feel both stylish and confident. Thoughtful design isn’t just about beauty, it’s about intelligent functionality that makes life easier. I’m passionate about creating pieces that offer timeless quality and craftsmanship while remaining accessible, so more women can experience the joy of carrying something beautifully made, designed to last and truly part of their everyday lives.

Leatherwork is often top of mind when people think of Particia Nash pieces. What is it about leather that keeps you interested, and what other textures do you enjoy playing with?
PN: Leather is endlessly fascinating. It ages beautifully, tells a story and each hide is unique. But I also love experimenting with woven textures, embossed patterns and luxurious fabrics like patina-coated linen and embellished suede.
Your daughter Jennifer Vanderink serves as VP of operations and strategy. What has working with your daughter taught you that you didn’t expect?
PN: She’s taught me the importance of seeing things through a fresh lens. She brings a new perspective to the brand, reminding me that tradition and innovation can go hand in hand. More than anything, it’s a privilege to share my lifelong passion with her, to watch her grow within the business and bring her own ideas to something so close to my heart.

What is one handbag style you always return to, the one you’d carry forever if you had to?
PN: A great tote — one that’s beautifully crafted, timeless and designed with plenty of pockets to keep everything organized. It’s the perfect companion for business meetings, travel and public appearances, holding everything I need while still fitting neatly under a plane seat. Versatility is key, and a well-made tote is something I’ll always rely on.
Working with nonprofits isn’t new for you. Why is it important to you to support organizations like the Baptist Health Foundation?
PN: Giving back has always been important to me. Health and wellness impact every family, and supporting an organization like Baptist Health Foundation helps ensure people have access to the care they need. It’s an honor to be part of this event.
