Palmyra, N.Y. — A Wayne County man is facing several charges following an alleged disturbing incident earlier this month.
The Palmyra Police Department responded May 13 around 11:45 a.m. to a home on Gates Street for the report of a person who was trying to drown his mom and her dogs.
As officers were arriving, an off-duty Wayne County sheriff’s deputy tried to intervene and was attacked by the suspect, Takota Spencer.
Police said Spencer forcibly restrained his mother, putting his hand over her mouth and nose while trying to submerge her in a bathtub full of water in an attempt to “release the demons” from her body.
Once his mother freed herself, Spencer allegedly tried to drown her dogs.
Authorities said when she said she was going to call 911, Spencer took her phone and threw it into the bathtub.
Spencer was arrested and charged with unlawful imprisonment, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal obstruction of breathing, harassment and resisting arrest, according to police.
He remains in custody at the Wayne County Jail pending an evaluation and arraignment.
