The owner of a golden retriever from the United Kingdom took her pup on a day out to the zoo for a new experience. His reaction to meeting all the wild animals there has melted hearts among social media users.
A viral TikTok video shared on Friday under the username @mollykilbs, shows the dog, Max, on a leash, strolling around the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, in West Oxfordshire, looking astonished as he meets the various animals.
He met penguins, big lizards, lions, tortoises, rhinos and lemurs, and each one of them made him more and more excited.
“Taking our golden retriever to a dog-friendly zoo in the Cotswolds,” reads layover text in the clip. A caption says: “Best day ever.”
Dogs are known for being sociable creatures that thrive on companionship, whether it’s another dog, a human, or even another different type of pet. But are they able to actually tell species apart?
Posted by Psychology Today, a study carried out by a team of French researchers led by Dominique Autier-Dérian of the University of Paris, proves that they are almost always able to tell a dog from another species, despite their breed, size and color.
The study presented them with pictures of dogs of different breeds and other species of animals, and in almost all cases, the dogs involved in the studies were able to tell dogs apart.
Some canines are more friendly than others, and so making friends for them, regardless of the animal species, can be easier than it is for others.
These breeds include golden retrievers; Labrador retrievers; beagles; boxers; poodles; Cavalier King Charles spaniels; collies; and bulldogs.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 2.3 million views and 187,900 likes on the platform.
One user, Andrew Shepherd, commented: “Don’t know how to explain this but feel a golden retriever would appreciate a zoo trip more than any other dog breed.”
Gerri H said: “My greyhound loved seeing all the animals here except the pig. He lost his absolute s**t at that poor pig.”
EarthToEmily added: “He’s such a gentle boy! my dogs would be barking and trying to eat them all.”
