A dog’s unique facial feature has melted the hearts of viewers online.
Remy, a Jack Russell terrier, has won fans worldwide after going viral on TikTok for his overbite. The dog’s owner, Liana Piggott, shared a short clip of the canine featuring the trait on the platform on July 22 under @lianapiggot. The video has since been viewed more than 2.2 million times and has led to Remy winning the hearts of fans online.
In the video, Remy lies beside his owner while she strokes his head. The footage then transitions to a series of photos of the dog that show off his overbite, his misaligned teeth visible in the shots facing the camera.
The post was captioned: “The overbite makes him an 11/10.”
An overbite is a dental condition in which the upper front teeth significantly overlap the lower front teeth when the jaws are closed. The condition can affect both humans and animals and can vary in severity from a minor overlap to a more pronounced protrusion where the upper teeth cover the lower teeth completely.
Overbites are typically categorized into two types: skeletal and dental. The former occurs when the jaws develop in a way that causes the upper jaw to protrude more than the lower jaw.
Hawthorn Hills Veterinary Hospital experts say that while most canine overbites are cosmetic, some need medical intervention as they can lead to gum injuries, puncturing of the hard palate, abnormal positioning of adjacent teeth, abnormal wear and bruising of the teeth, permanent damage, and, in the long run, premature tooth loss.
The dog in the viral post appears to be well-loved and looked after by his owner, and so most commenters have refrained from expressing concern for his health, instead choosing to gush over the canine’s sweet appearance.
