Owner gets cutest puppy, internet unprepared for what dog grows into

Puppies often capture hearts with their fluffy coats, button noses, and clumsy charm—but sometimes, what they grow into takes the internet by surprise.

That’s exactly what happened with Uma, a Brussels Griffon whose viral TikTok transformation has left viewers both stunned and delighted. The clip opens with Uma as a tiny pup, her dark brown glossy fur and wide eyes making her the textbook definition of cute. But it’s the next scene—Uma grown up and perched confidently on a bed—that has sparked a wave of hilarious and bewildered reactions.

This shocking transformation, shared to @feisty_uma, has racked up a whopping 34.3 million views and 4.6 million likes.

Newsweek reached out to @feisty_uma for comment via email. We could not verify the details of the case.

The Brussels Griffon is known for its endearingly odd features: large, expressive eyes, a pronounced brow, and a beard-like muzzle that has earned the breed comparisons to Star Wars‘ Ewoks. But Uma’s adult look inspired a different kind of association.

“Oh, cutie! When my son was about 4 years, he saw a dog like this. He shouts excitedly: ‘Mom, look! A monkey!'” one TikTok user commented. Another joked: “So, you’re telling me I can JUST BUY A GREMLIN?”

Despite the reactions, Uma’s transformation highlights a simple truth: puppies grow up, and sometimes they grow into something wholly unexpected.

However, one comment with over 33,000 likes said: “Girl you knew that dog was gone look like that,” and the owner responded: “Yeah we knew for sure – just how we like her,”

Still, not all dog owners choose breeds based on how cute the puppy version might be. In the U.S., the French Bulldog continues to dominate as the nation’s favorite dog breed for the third year in a row, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). The Frenchie, known for its compact size, low-maintenance coat, and unmistakable bat ears, dethroned the Labrador Retriever in 2022 after the Lab’s 31-year reign.

But while the French Bulldog has claimed the top spot, the Brussels Griffon is quietly climbing the popularity ladder. According to the latest AKC rankings, the breed jumped 13 places in a single year—from No. 92 to No. 84.

They’re not alone in their rise. The Kerry Blue Terrier led the pack with the biggest leap, moving up 25 spots. Other notable climbers include the Bracco Italiano, German Pinscher, and American Staffordshire Terrier. Even lesser-known breeds like the Bedlington Terrier and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever have gained ground.

As for Uma, her unique glow-up might just help the Brussels Griffon earn even more fans.

After all, who wouldn’t want to say they own a little Ewok—or gremlin?

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
