SMITH CO., Tenn. (WSMV) – A person has been charged after 12 dogs were found in “terrible conditions,” according to the Smith County Humane Society.
On Friday night, the humane society’s president was contacted by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for assistance with an animal cruelty investigation.
SCHS said nine adult dogs and three puppies were found in “terrible conditions.” Three of the 12 had to be rushed to the Gordonsville Veterinary Clinic for treatment.
One of those transported included a female dog SCHS is calling “Spirit” because she was “emaciated that she could barely stand and her body temperature was dangerously low.”
The other two taken to the veterinary clinic were in critical condition due to being emaciated and dehydrated, SCHS said.
SCHS said the other nine dogs were in need of veterinary care.
“They are emaciated, full of intestinal parasites and unaltered,” they said.
No food or water was found with the animals at the property.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office has charged with owner with one count of aggravated animal cruelty and four counts of animal neglect/cruelty, according to the humane society.
SCHS is working to find fosters for the dogs that have been vetted.
