Owens Cross Roads police officer saves two dogs over the weekend

OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. (WAFF) -An Owens Cross Roads police officer, having quite the busy weekend.

Kevin Graves rescued two different dogs, in two different incidents over the weekend. That first rescue happened on Friday.

Graves said he just happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Graves, along with several other first responders, rushed to a house fire on Cave Springs Circle.

The owner was fine, but the dog was still stuck inside.

After the dog was removed from the house, Graves jumped in, performing CPR on the dog.

He was able to revive it, and he says he felt a call to action to help save the dog.

“Seeing the dog helpless and lifeless, I’ve got to get to it, I’ve got to help it, it’s a life and I’ve got to save it. I’m not in the business to only help people, but animals too.”

Graves works with a police K-9 every day and says he’s received training on how to help save his dog if something ever happened.

He says that training helped save that dog’s life.

Less than 24 hours after saving the first dog, Graves found that German Shepard tied up and left for dead in Owens Cross Roads. Graves says he could tell right away no one was coming back for the dog.

Graves says the dog was very happy to be untied. He did have to use a little bribery to get the pup in his car.

”The puppy was shy and timid at first, but once I fed it some treats from my dog’s stash, it worked out well, and the dog came to me, I cut the rope, and it was very happy.”

That dog has already been adopted.

Graves says people shouldn’t get dogs if they can’t take care of them.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
