BEND, Ore. — The Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO) has taken in 30 dogs seized from a La Pine woman who was arrested on 69 counts of animal neglect.
The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office said the arrest of the 65-year-old followed an investigation into numerous dogs on her 10-acre property. The sheriff’s office said the suspect was cooperative and voluntarily surrendered the dogs. Most of them were pit bulls, Neapolitan mastiffs, German shepherds, shepherd/pit bull mixes, shepherd/Rottweiler mixes and one Cane Corso.
One dog was found dead and four dogs are missing. The sheriff’s office said live traps are being set to try to capture them.

The woman was cited and released. She has not yet been formally charged.
HSCO said the dogs, ranging in age from young puppies to seniors, have multiple health issues including malnourishment, significant injuries and chronic disease. They are receiving care from the HSCO veterinarian team and will become available when they are medically cleared and are spayed or neutered.
The intake comes as HSCO says it is already at full capacity for dogs. It’s prompting the shelter to ask the community for help with donations, fostering or even adopting dogs who are currently available.
“Right now, our top priority is giving these animals the medical care they urgently need. We’re calling on our community for help: adopt, foster, or donate. Your support will help ensure these animals get the care they need,” HSCO Executive Director Amber Kostoff said in a statement.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
