Over 60 LA wildfire-displaced animals find refuge in Seattle through rescue flight

SEATTLE — More than 60 animals from Los Angeles who were displaced as a result of the wildfires in California are expected to arrive in western Washington this weekend.

The animals were able to board a rescue flight thanks to Seattle Humane’s efforts to rescue pets from overcrowded shelters in the L.A. area.

“We’ve joined our friends with Wings of Rescue and Paws For Life K9 Rescue to pull pets from shelters in the Los Angeles area and bring them here on a much-needed rescue flight,” Seattle Humane said in a Facebook post.

Seattle Humane said they did a similar rescue flight during the Maui wildfires. The group also assisted with taking in shelter pets on the East Coast during Hurricane Ian.

The “Wings of Rescue” flight is scheduled to land at 2 p.m. and then the animals will be brought to Seattle. Once they arrive, the pets are expected to be available for adoption starting Tuesday, Jan. 14, Seattle Humane said.
