Orioles hand Bull Dogs first loss of season

AVON — Columbus North took its first girls tennis loss of the season Friday, a 3-2 setback at Avon in the first round of the Avon Invitational.

Aya Saad beat Noriko Chu 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for the Bull Dogs (6-1). Annabelle Sun and Nino Akalaya topped Hannah Schubert and Sammy Miller 2-6, 6-3, (10-8) at No. 1 doubles.

North’s Lucy Bergman fell to Adelyn Wyndham 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Ayane Umemura lost to Brook Widner 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Grace Conner and Lizzie Bodart fell to Dagem Messle and Ava Faust 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
