Onslow County Animal Services says there’s an increase in pets at the shelter

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Onslow County Animal Services says the number of animals in the shelter is on the rise.

As people walk into the animal shelter, they will hear dogs barking and cats meowing as they wait to find their forever homes. Animal Services says 57 dogs and 42 cats have gone into the shelter since last week. But from Saturday to Tuesday, 21 dogs have come to the shelter.

“We have one dog that has been with us for about two to three months,” said Tyler Moore, Onslow County Animal Services Manager. “It is sad to see those dogs just mush around hoping for somebody to take them.”

The shelter just had a ‘Clear the Shelters’ event in September to try and get as many pets adopted as possible. Some residents in Onslow County are ready to take the next step.

If I walked away without adopting her I feel like the house is just going to be quiet and it is going to be missing part of the noise we have in the house with the cats running around,” said Dion White, a resident of Jacksonville.

White has one cat already and says his friend found the kitten underneath his car a few weeks ago. White took her home for a little bit, and decided to officially adopt her on Tuesday. He said something stood out to him.

“She is younger,” said White. “I’ve never had a kitten before, so to see a kitten to a cat and the cat get older, is my kind of thing.”

However, Tuesday was not just about adoption but a reunion too. LuAnn Newbold says her dogs got out after digging holes into the ground. When she found out her dogs were at the shelter, she says a weight was lifted off her shoulder.

“Relief, very grateful they’ve been taken care of,” said Newbold. “I am ready to see them and take them home.”

There is a 3-3-3 rule when it comes to adoption which is it will take 3 days for the animal to decompress, 3 weeks to get a routine and 3 months to feel at home.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
