SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — One person was transported to the hospital following a house fire in Salt Lake City after he reentered the residence to search for his dogs.
Salt Lake City Fire Battalion Chief Kyle Lavender told 2News that crews were dispatched to the area of 600 South and 700 East early Saturday morning, Nov. 9, on reports of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived within two and a half minutes and found smoke and flames coming from the front window on the first floor. One resident met first responders outside and confirmed that nobody was in the house but his two dogs were.

Firefighters entered the home and located the animals, bringing them out uninjured and reuniting them with their owner.
An attack on the fire was initiated, and units had it under control within about 15 minutes. They conducted a final search to ensure no one else was inside the home.
The resident who alerted crews about his dogs had reentered the home before firefighters arrived. He later exited and was transported to the hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.
Battalion Chief Lavender noted that both dogs were found nuzzled into less smoky areas of the house and made themselves known to the firefighters, which made for a swift rescue.
The home sustained significant damage from both fire and smoke.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No firefighters were injured during the response.
