One person, two dogs dead after house fire in East Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – One person and two dogs were found dead after a house fire on Wednesday in East Topeka.

According to Topeka Fire Department, they received reports of a structure fire just after 4:07 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12 at 2418 SE Wisconsin Ave. in Topeka, Kan.

Officials said first arriving units reported a two-story residence fully involved with fire.

Officials indicated crews began an immediate attack on the fire. The fire was quickly brought under control.

During a search of the residence, firefighters located a male resident of the home and two dogs deceased. One dog was located inside of the residence and rescued.

TFD Investigations unit along with members of the Office of the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Investigations unit responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The total loss associated with the fire is $17,700.

The total response to the scene consisted of three engine companies, two truck companies, one aerial ladder and three Chief Officers.

Assisting agencies also included Topeka Police Department, American Medical Response, Kansas Gas Service, and Evergy.
