One Love Rescue highlights adoptable dogs from G.A.R.D.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – One Love Rescue is helping around 60 dogs find fosters or their forever homes. You can find a full slideshow of these dogs at the bottom of this article.

Our ongoing coverage continues after the President and Director of the former rescue, GARD, was arrested for aggravated animal cruelty. That rescue is under a stop order– meaning they can no longer accept any new animals into their car. That being said, more than 60 dogs remain on their property, that are looking for homes til they can be taken off of GARD’s property.

One Love takes in severely abused, neglected, and/or sick animals that have no other help. Their organization has saved 104 dogs from GARD’s property and transported them to Grassroots Rescue in Delaware as well as to some other out-of-state rescues. Their bills exceeded $10,000.

These animals are there for reasons that have nothing to do with behavior issues or aggression, simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. They are dog-friendly as many of them are kenneled together. Some are more shy than others but they come around quickly once in a home, we’re told by One Love Rescue’s Christina Dolan.

One Love Rescue’s focus is on working with our community and other rescues to try and save those left.

According to Dolan, their rescue has another transport going out on Nov 1st and is actively working with those out-of-state rescues to try and secure more placement for some of these dogs. All of our local shelters (Renegade/HSGS/CCAS) are full.

If anybody from the public steps up and offers to foster until we find a placement or adoptive home, One Love will provide the supplies and all vetting.

Steps for a potential foster would include:

  • Fill out a foster agreement from our website (link above). There is an e-form OR a pdf. A One Love foster coordinator will then reach out. If any questions, please email foster@oneloveanimalrescue.com. (It may take a few days to respond. We are all volunteer-based and we work full-time jobs, have families, etc.)
  • Once we have a foster(s) lined up, we will bring the dogs from GARD and do some initial vetting and bathing.
  • The fosters would meet us at a designated location (at a One Love volunteer house) to pick up their dog. We let them know the date/time/location in advance.
  • We will set up a vet appt and ask the fosters to take the animal to the vet at a later date OR if they cannot, one of our volunteers will do it. All dogs must be neutered/spayed and fully vaccinated. If they have other medical needs, we work with vets to address and pay for all costs. (This is why we fundraise.)
  • We supply crates, bedding, food, supplies, etc.
  • And then we go from there (ie whether we can secure placement on a transport OR we start to try and find adoptive homes here through our social media pages, adoption events like you attended, etc.).
The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
