One arrested after two dogs found dead at Waukon home

WAUKON, Iowa (KCRG) – One person has been arrested after law enforcement said they found two dead dogs at a home in Waukon on Wednesday.

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office said eight living dogs and two dead dogs were found while deputies conducted a welfare check at a home in the 500 block of Hanover Hill Lane.

The dogs that were still alive were taken to the Humane Society in Decorah for care. The sheriff’s office did not report their condition.

The sheriff’s office said Nathaniel Coleman, 28, was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was then taken to the Winneshiek County Jail.

Coleman faces the following charges:

  • Animal neglect
  • Inadequate care, animal in a commercial establishment
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
