OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A quick coffee stop took a turn for an Omaha woman.
Now, she’s searching for her car and her dog.
Saturday, Alanah Nantell briefly left her car running, took the keys with her, and went inside Myrtle and Cypress coffee shop in Midtown.
She didn’t know her Mazda could go far without the remote keys.
But when she came back out, someone took off with her vehicle. Also inside, her 7-year-old pit mix, crated in the third row.
“I feel like very stressed not knowing if he’s still in the car, if they dumped him somewhere, like I just have no way to know where he is,” Nantell said. “So, we’ve been searching. We searched for 12 hours yesterday, and so it’s not an option to not get my dog back. I don’t even really care about my car. I just want my dog back. Please keep an eye out. I am so appreciative. His name is Sonic.”
The dog owner says Sonic is microchipped, but that doesn’t have a GPS. Only if he’s returned to a shelter or a veterinarian can they identify his owner.
The vehicle does have a GPS, but without Mazda’s customer service – which opens tomorrow – it’s not updating on her app.
Nantell believes the car hasn’t been shut off, since whoever stole it doesn’t have the keys to turn it back on.
Of course, a reminder, never leave your car unlocked or on while unattended.
If you think you see the dog or vehicle, you’re urged to not approach. Call Omaha Police.
