Looking for a travel destination that welcomes dogs? Or just trying to get out of the house with man’s best friend?

You might consider heading to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It tops the list of the most dog-friendly national parks in the nation, according to the online lifestyle publication BestLife.

Here’s what to know.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park named most dog-friendly

To generate its list, BestLife reached out to travel experts for their choices on the most suitable national parks to take furry friends. Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Northeast Ohio came out on top.

According to park guidelines, leashed pets — defined as dogs, cats, or “any animal that has been domesticated” — are allowed on more than 100 miles of hiking trails and the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Exceptions include the mountain biking trails and the Virginia Kendall Hills during sledding season. Also, only service animals are allowed in park buildings and on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

BestLife says CVNP is a good place for you and your dog to take in the scenery, including “gorgeous forests and sprawling landscapes.” The publication also calls the park a safe place to visit.

“It has a relatively temperate climate, typically warm but not hot in the summer (great for making sure your dog avoids heat stroke) and cold but not freezing in the winter,” Erika Barnes, founder and CEO of Pet Smitten, tells Best Life for the article. “There’s also, compared to many of our national parks, a refreshing lack of creatures and critters that might do harm to you and your dog. Sure, they are there, but for example, there have been no venomous snakes found at the park.”

  • 4. White Sands National Park, New Mexico
  • 5. Shenandoah National Park, Virginia
  • 6. Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
