Officials remind people to keep dogs leashed to protect deer family in Portland park

PORTLAND (WGME) — Park officials in Portland are asking the public to keep safety in mind after a mama deer and her new baby made Baxter Woods their new home.

Officials say for the safety of the pair, please keep your dog on a leash at all times, because if you get too close, the mother deer, which has very sharp hooves, will try to defend her baby.

“Please do not approach the deer. Please do not try and feed the deer if you spot them. We want to let them try and have their own space. We want to observe them from a distance,” said Ranger Mike & Ranger Katya, with the Portland Maine Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department.

The eight foot leash law is in effect until August 1.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
