OFFICALS: East Texas woman arrested after burning dogs, endangering children

The investigation is ongoing.

RUSK COUNTY, Texas — A Rusk County woman was arrested Saturday after deputies responded to disturbing reports involving burned animals and allegations of child endangerment at a residence outside Henderson.

According to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a 911 call around 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, from an 11-year-old boy. The child told dispatchers his mother believed he was the devil and was burning the family dogs at their home in the 6100 block of U.S. Highway 64.

Minutes later, a second call was placed from a nearby residence saying a Hispanic female had arrived at their home with blood on her hands, claiming her parents had been killed.

When deputies arrived on scene, they located Veronica Loredo, 32, in a vehicle with four children.

During the investigation, deputies discovered dog remains in a fire burning in front of Loredo’s home.

Loredo was arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals. She also faces four counts of endangering a child. Her bond has been set at $400,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities have not released further information regarding Loredo’s mental state or motive.
