The incident happened around noon at the Extended Stay America at 3873 W. Commercial Blvd., just east of State Road 7.
Authorities said the two dogs were attacking the officer’s dogs.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that two dogs were attacking two other dogs,” Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Carey Codd said Monday afternoon. “The owner of the dogs that were being attacked shot the other two dogs.”
A witness described what she saw.
“I just (saw) a dog attacking a Black male and I guess it was like attacking its leg. And then that’s when he pulled out his gun, and he fired like four or five shots,” the witness said. “It was another dog attack, but the man was in the middle of it, so they started attacking the man.”
Codd said the investigation was “active and ongoing” as of about 3:30 p.m. Monday.
