Nyu freshman stole NYU student accuses roommate of stealing over $50,000 worth of clothes, handbags, and jewelry, according to court filings.

Nyu freshman stole : A New York University student is suing her roommate and her roommate’s mother for allegedly stealing over $50,000 in clothing, handbags, and jewelry and then attempting to sell the items through an online consignment site, according to court filings.

The suit claims that Aurora Agapov’s roommate Kaitlyn Fung “concocted a scheme whereby she would steal Plaintiff’s jewelry, high-end designer clothing, and handbags and sell the same through The RealReal.”

Agapov, who finished her first year at New York University this summer, found some of her possessions stolen around May 1, according to court filings. On the same day, she allegedly discovered a receipt addressed to her roommate Fung, who is from Old Tappan, NJ. The suit claims that the receipt was from the premium consignment business The RealReal and identified some of the allegedly stolen items.

“My heart dropped,” Agapov told the New York Post when she discovered the alleged thefts, which included items given to her by her mother. “We spoke pretty much every day,” she told the Post about her roommate. “I’d say we didn’t really have any falling outs or anything.” Nyu freshman stole

According to The RealReal, all consignors must sign an agreement affirming their right to sell the things and that they are not stolen. The corporation claimed it was working with local authorities on Agapov’s case and has provided all needed information. Nyu freshman stole

“If we receive any information that items might be stolen, we act fast by removing them from the site and starting an investigation,” stated a spokeswoman for the business. “We also advise the alleged victim to file a police report and we work with law enforcement and other legal authorities.”

Fung’s and Agapov’s legal teams did not immediately reply to CBS News’ requests for comment.

According to the lawsuit, Agapov confronted Fung, her roommate for the 2023-2024 school year, and Fung allegedly admitted to stealing several valuable items, some of which had already been sold through The RealReal, which describes itself as “the largest marketplace for authenticated luxury consignment.”

At Agapov’s suggestion, Fung allegedly logged into her RealReal account and displayed the things for sale. According to the lawsuit, the items included a Solange Azagury 18K ruby ring valued $23,765, a Celine Nanno tote worth $3,300, and a Chanel pocketbook worth $4,000.

The app purportedly listed stolen items that had previously been sold, such as a $175 Chanel bracelet and a $2,485 Bvlgari necklace. The suit claims that both goods were “sold for substantially less than their true market value.” The Chanel Strauss Bracelet was valued at $2,000, while the Bvlgari Necklace was estimated to be at $13,000.

The app purportedly revealed further items stolen from Agapov but returned to Fung, such as a Gucci handbag, a Celine handbag, and Christian Louboutin shoes.

According to the lawsuit, the unsold stolen items are worth around $31,000, while the damages claimed for the sold stolen items are at least $20,000.

Agapov reported the alleged theft to the New York Police Department on May 2, and Fung was detained the same day, according to the lawsuit.

When Agapov visited The RealReal store in central Manhattan to report the theft, an employee informed her that Fung’s mother, referred to as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, had asked the store to transfer the unsold products to her home in New Jersey, according to court filings. Despite Agapov’s demands, those things have yet to be returned, according to the lawsuit.

On June 6, a court summons was served on Fung’s father at her New Jersey home, according to court filings.
