NYPD searching for owners of a dog rescued from ‘ruff’ East River

Officers with the NYPD’s Harbor Unit are searching for the owners of a lost dog after rescuing the frosty pup from the ‘ruff waters’ of the East River on Sunday.

The drenched dog was safely fished out of the waterway on Sunday morning, according to a post by the NYPD on X.

“This morning, officers from the @NYPDSpecialops Harbor Unit rescued this little pup from the ‘ruff waters’ of the East River! They ensured she was safe, wrapped her in a warm blanket, and thanks to their quick actions, she can look forward to happier days!” the NYPD wrote.

The canine was composed as could be while she sat patiently in the officers’ arms so they could snap a picture of her swaddled in a blanket. She was soaked from head to toe and somehow still had a pink dog harness on her even after besting the East River’s choppy waters.

The dog is perfectly safe on land now, but still hasn’t found her way home. The NYPD said that she still hadn’t been claimed but hope that someone might recognize her soon.

In the meantime, the dog will remain in the Animal Care Centers of NYC until her owners come forward.

While man and dog may be best friends, the NYPD should be considered a close second given how often they save wayward strays.

One police officer in Brooklyn rescued a pup that was abandoned in Brownsville’s Betsy Head Park only to adopt the stray just a month later.

The department even has an annual calendar featuring officers across divisions alongside their own dogs.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
