Northern Star Dog Rescue saves 50 dogs from hoarding, seeks community help

Northern Star Dog Rescue, in partnership with Rilo’s Rescue, recently rescued 50 small dogs from a severe hoarding situation in Twin Falls. Now, they are working to rehabilitate the animals both physically and emotionally before finding them permanent homes.

“I want the unwanted, the ones that are lost, the ones that are broken. I’m what a lot of people call the 11th hour for dogs,” said Amanda Caples, founder and executive director of Northern Star Dog Rescue.

The rescued dogs, all weighing under 10 pounds, face a range of severe health issues, including flea infestations, untreated wounds, and more serious medical needs.

“There is hip dysplasia, there are eyes that need to be removed, blindness,” she added.

Caples and her team are providing everything they can to restore the dogs to full health. Each dog will receive vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping, and they are scheduled for spay and neuter procedures, along with rabies vaccinations.

While helping the animals physically, Northern Star also focuses on emotional rehabilitation, working to rebuild the dogs’ trust and confidence.

“Giving them baths, getting them to feel a little bit better — that builds a lot of trust and love,” Caples said. “Just hugging them, kissing them, getting that dirt and grime off of them really helps open them up and feel more comfortable.”

Northern Star Dog Rescue is now asking for community support, encouraging people to either foster the dogs or donate to help cover medical expenses.

“If you can donate or foster, please do so. Open your hearts, your homes, your wallets,” Caples said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s 10 cents, it helps in many ways that you wouldn’t believe.”

Moving forward, Northern Star Dog Rescue plans to continue its mission of helping dogs in need, providing second chances for those who have been neglected or abandoned.

“I’m there for them. This is my turn to give back to them, to those who need somebody by their side,” Caples said. “That’s what my name is all about — Northern Star Dog Rescue — because it’s set in place, it’s steady to guide, and we’re their guide to get them home.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
