Kwame Baffoe Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has accused Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Senior Presidential Advisor, of spending lavishly on expensive handbags.
According to Abronye DC, none of the bags he claims to have been purchased by President John Mahama’s Special Advisor, costs less than $2,500.
“She now buys and changes expensive bags for different programmes. None of them costs less than $2,500. In the courtroom, I will ask her to provide receipts for every bag she owns,” he said on Wontumi FM.
He made these claims while addressing legal threats from Mrs. Bawah Mogtari, who is demanding GH¢10 million in damages over a defamatory statement made by him during a live programme on Net 2 TV on March 26.
A letter from Mrs. Bawah Mogtari’s lawyers, R.O. Solomon Consulting, accuses Abronye of falsely stating that she receives GH¢95,000 monthly as compensation for being excluded from a ministerial appointment.
The legal team is demanding an unqualified apology, a full retraction of the statement, and the GH¢10 million compensation, failing which they will pursue legal action.
Responding to the allegations, Abronye dismissed the threat of a lawsuit, claiming it would be unsuccessful in court.
According to him, the defamation suit would only gain traction on social media but would not hold water in a physical court.
