Prove You Love Me, said the Hated Dictator
An evil dictator who burned rivers, squashed nephews, etc. still wanted the love of his people, a dynamic acted out by Alasdair Beckett-King above. He mandated his picture to be on everyone’s wall in their homes, and in the end ordered his people’s spontaneous expression of love for him in the form of a parade.
It’s a funny video, and like a lot of comedy, it also speaks a lot of truth. Cult leaders, gangsters and dictators will always need demonstrations of loyalty. Mussolini required oaths of allegiance by teachers, and politically relied on a personal loyalty to himself, “a more complex sense of loyalty to the Duce [Mussolini] personally emerges – a form of loyalty that remained non-rational and essentially tautological to the notion of loyalty to Fascism itself.” It’s not loyalty to an idea, but to the autocrat that is the hallmark of a would-be dictator.

No One is Eating Dogs – the Loyalty Test
That brings us to Haitian immigrants eating dogs in Ohio.
No one is eating pets in Ohio. The Trump campaign has to know this. Everyone in Ohio knows it. But somehow Trump is still telling that story. Why?
In cults and other high control groups the belief system often gets more and more radical as a test of loyalty. What how far is a True Believer willing to go? It always becomes a matter of proving yourself to the leader and the group.
That’s what this “eating dogs in Ohio” thing reminds me of. The True Believers of Trump are proving their loyalty by ignoring all evidence and public statements, even of the Mayor of Springfield, Ohio. Videos and the 9-11 caller that started the whole thing have disavowed it. Still, Trump supporters are insisting that pets are being consumed by Haitian immigrants, and are so committed to this idea that they are threatening to kill children in schools and blow up hospitals. That’ll show them!

Once again, the liberal media misses the point of what Trump is doing. He is creating a loyalty test for his followers. He is demanding they embrace this obviously false story to show their loyalty to him. It demands they disavow their eyes, their logic and many first-hand accounts.
You know, like a cult.
