GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – An updated rule will help protect working dogs across Colorado.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife has recently updated rules to allow ranchers to kill wolves attacking working dogs.
The 10(j) Rule outlines when wolves can be killed in Colorado. On Friday the CPW unanimously voted to update the 10(j) Rule’s language to include working dogs.
The updated 10(j) language says that wolves caught in the act of attacking livestock or working dogs may be killed. The updated rule only applies to working dogs like livestock guardians or herding dogs.
Before this new rule was put into effect working dogs were not protected.
