New program lets you take Sacramento County shelter dogs out for a day

(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento County’s Bradshaw Animal Shelter has a new program that lets people take a dog out for a day at a time.

The program, Barks and Recreation, helps shelter dogs get an enriching day of activity outside of the kennel, while the public can enjoy a dog’s company with a long-term commitment, according to the shelter.

The shelter said the trips serve not only as time away from the kennel, but that they help the animals gain social skills, lower their stress, and get prepared to be adopted.

People interested in the program must first make an appointment. Once the dog and day are determined, they will receive plenty of supplies to help with the field trip at pickup time.

The shelter’s website says that there are several do’s and don’ts that the staff will discuss with people interested in taking a dog for a day.

Several dogs have already been on trips as they await to be permanently adopted, including outings at people’s homes and visiting community parks and businesses.

The shelter is located at 3839 Bradshaw Road and is open Tuesday-Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. Its phone number is (916) 368-7387.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
