
The owner of the dog now faces negligent homicide charges.
NEW ORLEANS — An 81-year-old woman who died after being attacked by her neighbor’s dogs was laid to rest Friday.
Barbara Stewart, 81, was mauled outside her home on March 20 and later died from her injuries. A celebration of life service will be held at Abundant Life Church on Hayne Boulevard, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m.
Chad Bridges, 37, the owner of the dogs involved in the attack, has been charged with negligent homicide.
According to police, the attack happened around 9 a.m. in the 10200 block of Brookfield Drive. Stewart was rushed to the hospital with severe bite wounds and later died of her injuries.
At the time of Stewart’s death, the Louisiana SPCA confirmed that three dogs were involved in the attack. One was euthanized at the owner’s request, and two others are under mandatory quarantine.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal mauling.
