New canine recruit with ‘high work drive’ joins Guernsey Police

Guernsey Police has welcomed its latest canine recruit to the dog unit.

German Shepherd Max has become a Police Dog (PD) after completing his initial training course in the UK.

He follows in the paw prints of PD Guinness who joined the force about a year ago, taking the number in the dog section ranks to five.

Det Sgt Adam Miller said the work the dogs do – from sniffing out lost property to locating suspects – was “invaluable”.

He said fellow recruit PD Guinness joined Guernsey Police last year.

“Both are general patrol dogs – largely their work is around finding people, vulnerable people or those who have left crime scenes,” said Det Sgt Miller.

“They can cover a lot more ground and are a lot more focused which means we can get the help people need quicker.”

Both recently took part in a refresher training day at Rue Mainguy with their handlers from the Police’s Dog Section.

The session involved an exercise to locate a missing person and lost property, as well as chasing a suspect.

Inspector Miller said when looking for a new PD, they wanted to find one with the right personality for the job.

“For working dogs we want high drive dogs who are happy to be around new people with tails wagging,” he said.

“I can do a lot more with a police dog than I can with 10 officers at times, so the work they do is invaluable.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
