GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) – Neighbors in Gadsden are asking the city for help after video shows loose and stray dogs killing cats in the neighborhood, running in groups and scaring people.
The Mary Street community in East Gadsden say they are tired of these dogs roaming the area and they want someone to take responsibility.
Jonathan Rutledge says these dogs have been a problem since June of this year. He says that’s when they killed his cat. He says he’s contacted the City of Gadsden, animal control and even reached out to the mayor.
Katherine Webb who lives in the neighborhood says she’s seen the dogs running in packs while also being attacked herself by what she says was a pit bull. Most recently, both neighbors say more than eight dead cats have shown up dead in their yards, and it’s time for something to be done.
“Its got me to where I don’t want to come out because I can only go so far to be able to get back to safety so, I don’t want to come out knowing I could be attacked by a dog,” said Katherine.
“Animal control tells us they can’t do anything because it’s nocturnal attacks. There’s nobody on staff at nighttime. They’ve told us they’d bring traps out three months ago when they’re available. They’ve never come back,” said Jonathan.
Jonathan Rutledge says the owners of these dogs need to be held responsible and prosecuted. WBRC reached out to the City of Gadsden for comment and have not heard back from them.
