RUSK, Texas — Several dogs were rescued last week after they were found abnormally thin and without food or water at a property in Cherokee County.
According to a Facebook post from the SPCA of East Texas, an anonymous tip led the nonprofit to the dogs who were abandoned on a property in Rusk.
The dogs were left without food or water for over 10 days. Some of the emaciated dogs were able to chew through a door and escape the yard.

The SPCA of East Texas called the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and the owners were arrested and charged with animal cruelty and neglect, the SPCA said.
“The SPCA ETX has several programs that help our community to better the lives of our pets. Rehoming & adoptions, low-cost vaccine clinic, and a community food pantry. No excuses,” the nonproifit said.
The SPCA said the dogs have been to the vet and have been given proper care. The pups are not yet available for adoption, but they will need foster homes.
