Nearly a dozen dogs, 3 cats seized in animal cruelty investigation in Ansonia

One of the dogs found at the home was dead, according to police. Two that were found in an “extreme medical condition” were euthanized.

ANSONIA, Conn. — Two men were arrested in Ansonia following an animal cruelty investigation involving multiple dogs that were found “emaciated” and in need of medical attention, the town’s police department said Tuesday.

According to police, Javon Coverson, 30, and Assante Coverson, 26, are facing charges including cruelty to animals, failure to comply with dog ownership requirements and failure to comply with rabies control ordinances. Javon Coverson was charged on eight counts of the first charge, and seven counts for each of the other two charges.

Police said that investigators were at a home on Condon Drive on June 6 after obtaining a search warrant for an “unrelated criminal investigation,” when they found the dogs in a condition that showed “severe neglect.”
