“A staggering number of animals across the country are being impacted by disasters right now,” said MSPCA-Angell Relocation Manager Josie Waldron.
The MSPCA at Northeast Animal Shelter will take in several new residents this week.
Thirty seven cats that have been impacted by the serious snowfall in Louisiana arrived in Salem Saturday and will be up for adoption after their state-mandated quarantine, according to the organization.
These felines arrived less than a week before 10-20 dogs that have been impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires will arrive, according to the MSPCA.
“A staggering number of animals across the country are being impacted by disasters right now,” said MSPCA-Angell Relocation Manager Josie Waldron. “As a leader in animal welfare with an established Disaster Relief Program, we have a responsibility to help in any way we can.”
The 37 Louisiana cats, which range from 3 months to 3 years old, are mostly domestic shorthairs. According to the MSPCA, they came to Salem from different shelters across Louisiana.
Their transport to Salem was arranged by the Bissell Pet Foundation.
Those interested in adopting are asked to visit the Northeast Animal Shelter from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
“We’re still finalizing plans, but it looks like we’ll be taking in 10-20 large sized dogs from the Los Angeles-area late next week,” Waldron expounded. “Given the distance, we expect the dogs to fly to a closer state, like Delaware, where we’ll pick them up and drive them back to Massachusetts.”
