MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The City of Midland reported on Wednesday that the mass fostering effort at the end of April resulted in nearly 130 dogs surviving and being declared “symptom-free.”
Fix West Texas reported its final results from the fostering effort after a distemper outbreak this spring.
“All of the 129 dogs who survived distemper are now fully cleared and symptom-free,” Fix West Texas reported.
The organization worked with the City of Midland, Midland Animal Services and other animal groups, such as Sassy’s Dog Rescue and Midland Animal Shelter Adoptables, on a mass foster effort to avoid the euthanasia of around 150 dogs.
Fix West Texas said in its report that there was no spread of distemper within the community and within its foster homes during this time.
“93 percent of the dogs rescued were able to survive this terrible disease because they were vaccinated by our City on intake,” the report stated.
