PRINCETON, Mass. (WLNE) — NEADS World Class Service Dogs said it is asking Rhode Islanders to be full-time, part-time, or weekend puppy raisers for 13 Labradors training to be Service dogs.
The 13 puppies are training to support adults and children with a physical disability or hearing disability, veterans, and children with autism or other developmental disabilities.
NEADS said the puppies have been working on crate training, walking on a leash, and housebreaking skills, and are “ready for the next step in their development.”
Full-Time Puppy Raisers would take care of the puppy for six to 12 months, and work on “basic obedience training” and socialization.
The organization also offers a team raising program, which would include a group of volunteers working together to make sure the puppy is cared for everyday for six to 12 months, as well as a weekend puppy raiser that would care for a puppy every weekend for one to two years.
NEADS said a puppy raiser can be anyone with a “passion for dogs” that can commit to socializing and training a puppy.
The organization said they “urgently need to be placed” by the end of March.
