CLINTON, N.Y. — Today is National Hug Your Dog Day.
Greger Larson from Durham University, featured in the PBS documentary Dogs Decoded, shared some insightful thoughts about our canine companions:
“Dogs absolutely turn the tables. Without dogs, humans would still be hunter-gatherers, and without that initial starting phase of dog domestication, civilization just would not have been possible,” he said.
While we lack photographic evidence from that distant past, we do possess images from the Victorian Era that showcase our beloved pets.
Here’s a photo from the Clinton Historical Society’s collection, simply described as “Portrait of Boy and Dog,” with no specific date attached.

So, in celebration of this special day, don’t forget to give your furry friend a well-deserved hug.
