MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A new set of special puppies is on a mission to help those who once served us.
Nonprofit Joint Task Force K9s is introducing its first-ever bred litter of future service dogs.
The pups will go to veterans and law enforcement who suffer from PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.
JTFK9S founder and CEO Keith Holland says the litter is working on obedience and confidence skills right now, and they will start training on recognizing fluctuating stress hormones in a few weeks.
Holland, an Army Green Beret, says he knows firsthand the impact service dogs can have on those struggling with PTSD after getting his dog Quill seven years ago.
“He saved my life completely,” Holland said. “He was able to get me off the couch when I was in my thoughts and fighting my demons. He was able to comfort me, show me love and attention, and really just stop those attacks from happening. For me, the dogs are one of the best things that’s happened to me.”
You can meet the pups, enjoy snacks and learn more about the celebration during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
It’s at 1 p.m. at Prime Pet Rehabilitation Center at 951 Mr Joe White Ave. in Myrtle Beach.
