LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – We finally have an answer to the question: Where is Murphy?
The dog disappeared from a Las Vegas Valley boarding facility while his owners were on a two-week vacation to Italy. FOX5 first told you about Murphy’s going missing from the All American Animal Hospital on West Flamingo last week.
No one in the office knew where he was when his family came to pick him up. Lynn Vasquez says she got an unexpected call from the vet there Monday.
“He said, ‘I have Murphy. He is in my arms right now,’” Vasquez, Murphy’s owner, recounted. They rushed to get him. The vet told them a homeless person had had him.
“They got an anonymous tip and he and his office manager, I guess, decided to work on that tip and went to a homeless encampment and they found him and brought him back,” Vasquez shared.
Murphy’s owners say the little eight-year-old rescue dog lost about three pounds during the ordeal. No matter the circumstances, his family is just happy to have Murphy home.
“I just don’t think that we are ever going to know the real story about how he got back or even how he got lost,” Vasquez asserted.
When Vasquez went to file a police report when Murphy was missing, she was told that in Nevada, dogs are classified as property, so it would have to be handled in civil court. The Vasquez family hopes they can somehow help change that law, though they plan never to leave Murphy again.
“My husband decided he is never traveling again, and so he will just stay home with the dog,” Vasquez explained.
FOX5 did reach out to All American Animal Hospital asking for the story of how Murphy was found. The person who answered the phone said they were glad Murphy is now safely back home and they would pass our request on to the owner.
The Vasquez family says without the report from FOX5 and social media shares, they don’t believe Murphy would have made it back home. Our original report was viewed more than 15,000 times on FOX5Vegas.com alone.
