A number of dogs were saved from a fire at an animal hospital in North Haven on Sunday night, including two that went into cardiac arrest and were revived.
Firefighters responded to the Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine, at 4 Devine St., at 9:15 p.m. when the building’s fire alarm was tripped and multiple people called 911 to report a dryer fire that was filling the building with smoke, according to the North Haven Fire Department.
Fire officials said the fire broke out in an area where numerous animals were being housed. Crews put out the fire and aggressively worked to ventilate the building of smoke and toxic fumes, according to fire officials.
Firefighters carried some of the animals outside and helped revive and care for a number of them. Two dogs went into cardiac arrest and were able to be revived by firefighters and staff at the hospital, officials said.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire remains under investigation.
