Multiple dogs killed, 4 rescued in Phoenix mobile home fire

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Multiple dogs have died after a mobile home went up in flames in Phoenix on Friday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., Phoenix firefighters received multiple calls from neighbors about a fast-moving fire at a home on Fremont Street, located near 40th Street and Baseline Road. When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames outside the house and the blaze was quickly spreading inside.

“We did a quick search and attack,” said Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade.

Crews found the homeowner standing outside, who told them multiple dogs were still inside. Firefighters were able to get in and began searching to find the animals who were trapped.

Crews were able to gain control of the flames and extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading to surrounding houses. However, Phoenix Fire confirmed that 10-12 dogs were found dead, including a litter of puppies. Four other dogs were rescued.

“Unfortunately, it was a very fast-moving, very hot burning fire,” McDade said. “When firefighters were trying to make search of the home, they did find multiple deceased animals that did succumb to their injuries with the fire.”

The exact number of deceased dogs has not been determined.

“Today is just a tragic morning,” McDade said. “There were some older dogs, there were some younger; puppies that were in there. The homeowner made a valiant effort to get those animals out.”

Firefighters are currently searching to see if there are other animals inside. No other injuries were reported.

Capt. McDade confirmed that multiple space heaters were found in the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
