NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Firefighters endured extreme heat Sunday afternoon as they battled a blaze in Maury County that destroyed a home and killed several pets.
According to the Maury County Fire Department, multiple units responded to a report of a house fire on Mack Benderman Road shortly before 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 16.
When crews arrived at the scene, they said they found “a double wide mobile home approximately 90% involved and partially collapsed.”
Deputies from the Maury County Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly after the first fire units and reported that elderly people lived in the home, fire officials said.
First responders said they immediately performed a “Vent, Enter, Search” operation through the window of the only bedroom that wasn’t in flames. They reportedly found one dog on the bed and removed it through the window, but the owners were not home at the time of the fire.
Officials said crews worked through extreme heat in order to fully extinguish the fire, which resulted in the deaths of several dogs. Photos posted on social media showcase the extent of the damage caused by the blaze:
“We would like to thank our members who selflessly left family events either celebrating their father’s, or being celebrated themselves as a father in order to serve their community,” the Maury County Fire Department posted on Facebook.
