The Kentucky Humane Society and Louisville Metro Animal Services found homes for 160 dogs during the Hammer’s Lou Adopts on Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Humane Society and Louisville Metro Animal Services are working with several shelters to find forever homes for more than 200 dogs.
The organizations held the 3rd annual Hammer’s Lou Adopts event on Saturday at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center.
On site adoptions were available and all dogs came spayed or neutered, microchipped and up-to-date vaccinations.
The goal of the events, organizers say, is to help find homes for as many dogs and puppies as possible to free up space in local shelters.
“This [event] allows us to get animals into good homes so we can provide better care so we can get them ready to go to a good home,” LMAS assistant director Justin Franklin said. “I have talked to many who adopted that are so excited. Some of them have recently lost their lifelong friend and looking to love someone else.”
Franklin said there were also plenty of puppies at the event with excited kids ready to take care of them.
About 160 dogs were adopted at the event.
Isaacs & Isaacs Personal Injury Lawyers, who sponsored the function, plans to have it again in 2026.

Adoption fees are waived for all dogs a year and older at Kentucky Humane Society. This is part of the “Empty the Shelters” event.
There is a $10.50 licensing fee and $10 leash and collar fees.
The no adoption fee ends on May 15.
